SSS Student Leadership Opportunities

Student Advisory Board

The purpose of the SAB is to provide a student forum to communicate thoughts, ideas, and concerns to the SSS staff. During monthly meetings, the SSS staff requests input, opinions, and recommendations from student members on ways to increase participation and improve student learning. Student Advisory Board members also gain valuable leadership experience by participating in various campus activities designed to promote personal leadership skills. Students on the Board are often asked to assist staff with both program and University sponsored events.

Peer Mentor Program

The mission of the SSS Peer Mentoring Program is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment to all incoming freshmen and transfer participants through the use of successful, upperclass role models. Our peer mentors recognize the importance of having a well-rounded first-year experience at the University of Alabama. They are here to share their first-hand knowledge and experience of both the rigors and rewards of a solid academic and personal foundation.

"During my freshman year, Kimberly Parker was my peer mentor. She was really sweet and helpful; she kept me abreast of upcoming events and deadlines. At times she just called to make sure everything was going smoothly. She was a joy!!" Reeshawna Caddell, SSS Participant
