Eligibility

Students

Federal Eligibility for Program Services

To receive assistance, students must be U.S. citizens who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment at The University of Alabama. The SSS program is limited to 200 participants per year. Eligible participants must meet at least one of the following federal criteria:

First generation college student (neither parent or legal guardian has a baccalaureate degree) or

Family's taxable income for the preceeding year does not exceed the federal
Income Guidelines or

Student has a documented disability with the UA Office of Disability Services

AND

Student has an academic need for services in order to persist toward graduation from UA.

Academic Need

For the purpose of program eligibility, applicants must meet at least one of the following:

High School GPA below 3.0
ACT composite or any subtest score of 20 or below
SAT score of 950 or below
U of A placement test score in MATH 005, MATH 100, or EN 099
College GPA between 2.0 and 2.99
Previous semester GPA below 2.0
Failing grades in one or more courses
Returning adult student (out of academic pipeline for five or more years)
Lack of educational and/or career goals
Lack of academic preparedness for college level coursework
Need for academic support to raise grade(s) in required course(s) or academic major
Enrolled in highly concentrated math and science related majors including Engineering, Nursing, Math, Accounting, Finance, Pre-Med or Pre-Pharmacy
