CLASS POLICIES

1. Attendance is required & ROLL WILL BE TAKEN. Students with no more than 2 unexcused absences during the semester may replace their lowest test score with their score on the final exam. (This does not include tests missed due to an unexcused absence or a test for which there was academic misconduct.) Students who are more than 5 minutes late to class will receive one half an absence as will students who leave class before class is dismissed.

2. To receive an excused absence, a student must give verification of serious illness (medical excuses must indicate "home-to-bed" illnesses) or other emergency and make up missed class by using appropriate material or a tutor at the Center for Teaching & Learning (1st Floor, Osband Hall). Verification forms showing usage of materials or tutors must be given to me to complete an excused absence.

3. Students who miss a class (excused or unexcused) are responsible for finding out what was missed and making it up in a timely manner. Usually this means that after an absence of a single class meeting, students will be able to get caught up by the next class meeting. For an extended excused absence, other conditions may be arranged but it is still the responsibility of the student to contact the instructor as soon as possible to discuss the matter (beforehand, whenever possible).

4. Students who know that they will miss a future class are responsible for notifying the instructor IN ADVANCE

5. Homework will be done as assigned. See #3 for the policy regarding missed assignments due to absences. Homework may occasionally be taken up for a grade (so be prepared—just in case).

6. There are 3 major exams (plus a final). The exams are departmental and, except for the final, are given on Wednesday evenings from 8:00-9:20pm (no exceptions will be made).

7. You MUST arrange your schedule so that nothing conflicts with any exam date. There will be no exceptions. Only students on official university business who make advance arrangements will be allowed to take a make-up exam. Otherwise, no make-up exams will be given. Students who miss an exam because of serious, verifiable illness or emergency may be given the option of taking a make-up exam or replacing the missed exam score with the final exam score if timely notification is given (no more than 2 days after the missed exam). Makeups must be approved by the department, not the instructor.

8. You will have a comprehensive final exam on Thursday May 7 from 6:00-8:30pm (location: To Be Announced).

9. Your final course grade will be determined exactly as follows:

Regular exams (20% each): 60%
Quizzes, projects, homework, etc.: 10%
Comprehensive final exam: 30%
TOTAL: 100%

10. The Center for Teaching and Learning provides a free individual tutorial service by appointment only. Call 348-8854 and make an appointment early; slots go rapidly, especially around exam time. There will also be weekly help sessions for which you do not need an appointment. Check with the CTL for the times and location.
